While normally I wouldn't post about something as menial as a sandwich, let me just be very honest here and tell you that the District 5 from Switchback Smokehouse made me change my mind. I've eaten good sandwiches in my life, but never one so noteworthy. As a matter of fact, after I had my first bite, I called my mom to tell her what I was eating. It was the most surreal experience.
So the District 5 is sliced smoked duck breast with goat cheese, mixed greens, tomato, fried onion, and garlic lemon aioli on brioche; and it is absolutely sublime! The picture hardly does it justice.
And if that wasn't enough, the bacon from Switchback is so good they sell it by the slice. Seriously. Some days, I just walk in and ask for a few strips of bacon. Plain bacon not your thing? That's fine, just order the John Candy. And if you're skeptical because this is a Montreal-style smokehouse run by a couple of dudes from Michigan, let me tell you that my son will eat that bacon up so fast, you'll think he inhaled it.
Don't go to this place expecting Texas, Carolina, Kansas, or Tennessee-style smokehouse barbeque - you will not find it. However, if you're looking for some seriously gourmet grub, this is definitely the spot to check out. They have a killer selection of microbrews, too!
